Kalazhierjin Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section lies west of Karateki Mt. and Maidantawu, Xinjiang. It was named by Zhang Chengjing in 1961, and formally cited in Regional Stratigraphic Scale of Xinjiang in 1981.
Lithology and Thickness
Sandstone. A suite of neritic terrigenous clastic rock formation, dominated by gray and light-gray-green sandstone, siltstone, shale and polymineralogic sandstone intercalated with clastic limestone. Exposed thickness ~4000 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Unknown: Fault-contact with the underlying Ayilihe Fm limestone
Upper contact
Unconformably overlain by Pliocene-Lower Pleistocene conglomerates in type section; and elsewhere in this region by middle Permian Baledirtag Fm sandy claystone or Xiaotikanlik Fm volcanics.
Regional extent
Distributed at Maidantawu, Bashisuogong and north of Wuqia

Fossils
In the limestone are contained Fusulinids Schwagerina sp., Pseudoschwagerina sp., Triticites mininus sp., Rugosofusulina sp., Quasifusulina cayeuxi and Schubertella sp., Coral Lophcarinophyllum sp. as well as brachiopods, etc. Fossil plants are also found in the sandstone and siltstone.
